Overview¶
EPAS is a hardware solution which is deployed in the customer’s datacenter. The basic installation features two hardware components, the EPAS MASTER and the EPAS WORKER, which are to be installed in a datacenter rack. An optional EPAS AGENT can be installed in a different remote location, for remote retrievals:
- The MASTER unit contains all the application logic and controls all the EPAS processes. It is the component which contains all the target information, audit reports, and presents the administrators and auditors with a web-based access interface. The MASTER unit also includes all the application logic for password quality enforcement. It manages all the other EPAS units, WORKER and AGENT types.
- The WORKER appliance is an additional hardware and software unit, which can be used for performing audit jobs, and which is controlled by the MASTER. It is possible to deploy multiple WORKERs in order to perform multiple audit jobs at the same time.
- For remote locations, AGENT units, consisting in simplified EPAS hardware and software, are provided. The MASTER unit will use the remote AGENT in order to retrieve the password data from the targets located in remote locations, data centres, etc., without having to use large bandwidth connections and without opening the firewalls for all traffic. The AGENT units are also used for high availability and failover functionality for the password quality enforcement feature 1. The communications between the MASTER and the AGENT are authenticated and encrypted and use a single IP port.
The EPAS service is entirely on-premise, delivered via hardware appliances installed in the datacentres designated by the client.
